To choose the right silicone plug for powder coating, follow these steps:

1. Measure the hole or threa — Use calipers to measure the inner diameter of the hole or thread size (e.g., M6, M8, M10)
2. Identify the hole type — Internal threads? Through-hole? Blind hole? Tapered hole?
3. Match to our plug types：

   Masking caps → for bolts, studs, pipe ends

   Tapered plugs → for tapered holes, multiple hole sizes

   Pull plugs → for through-holes and blind holes

   Thread plugs → for internal threads (M2–M20)

Silicone masking for powder coating offers several advantages over tape:

1. Reusable — Plugs can be used 5+ times; tape is single-use
2. Cleaner edges — Plugs create sharp, clean mask lines; tape can leave adhesive residue
3. Faster installation — Push in place vs. wrapping tape around each hole
4. Higher temperature resistance — Silicone withstands 600°F; tape often fails at high heat
5. Lower long-term cost — Despite higher upfront cost, plugs save money over time

For high-volume production, silicone masking plugs and caps are the more cost-effective solution.

Paint burrs after removing masking plugs are usually caused by one of three things:

1. Overspray buildup — Paint particles bounce back and build up around the plug edge during spraying. Solution: adjust spray angle to 45°–90° and avoid spraying directly at the plug.
2. Plug removed too early — Paint film tears if removed before full curing. Solution: wait until the coating is completely cured before removing.
3. Coating too thick — Heavy passes create thick film buildup around the plug. Solution: apply lighter passes near masked areas.
